Tree Outliner for the web (treeoutliner.app) and Tree Outliner for Chrome. Last updated October 28, 2026.
Your documents stay on your device
Everything you write in Tree Outliner is stored on your device only: in your browser for the web version, and in Chrome's storage for the extension. Your documents are never sent to us or to anyone else. We cannot see them, and there is no account to sign in to.
If you clear your browser's data or remove the extension, the documents stored there are removed too. To keep a copy, save your document as a file with ⌘S (Ctrl+S on Windows and Linux).
The web version
treeoutliner.app counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It does not use cookies and does not identify you: it records that a page was viewed, the referring site, the country, and the type of browser and device. Nothing you write is part of it.
The Chrome extension
- The extension collects no data and sends nothing over the network.
- It asks for three permissions: storage and unlimited storage, to keep your document in Chrome however long it gets, and side panel, to open in Chrome's side panel when you click its button.
- It does not read the web pages you visit.
Files
When you save or open a file, it goes directly between Tree Outliner and the folder you choose on your device.
